Hi there! I'm Ash, a front end developer at StatusCake. I've been part of the team since January 2022, and in that time I've managed to work across just about every part of StatusCake’s front end offerings.
I first started my career in late 2015 as a Technical Project Manager at a web agency. I'd originally interviewed for a developer role, but a combination of me being wholly unqualified and the competition being suitably qualified led to me being unsuccessful. Luckily, I'd made enough of an impression that when a PM role opened up a few months later, they got in touch to see if I fancied giving it a go.
I enjoyed the PM role (most of the time, anyway) but it was always my ambition to be a dev. I'd work on little projects in my spare time, pester my developer colleagues for tips and tricks, and volunteer for any kind of techy task that I could convince people to let me do. Eventually, after a few years, the opportunity arose for me to migrate from PM to dev and I took it with both hands.
I've loved my time as a dev. I've worked on a whole variety of projects and within a range of tech stacks and team sizes. I was super interested to join StatusCake when I saw that they were looking to expand the team. I really liked the idea of working on projects where we're our own stakeholder and where the results of my work stick with me rather than just handing them off to a client and never seeing them again. There's something very satisfying about releasing a change and watching its impact.
In my spare time I'm an avid reader - I'll give anything that's got a wizard in it a go. I like to golf in the warm months and stay inside waiting for the warm months in the cold months. I live in Bedfordshire with my wife and our cat, Rufus. Here he is enjoying himself on the table in our conservatory that he is absolutely not allowed on:
